A SEASONAL COLOR GUIDE
Nordic Holiday Color Palettes
There is no single traditional Nordic Christmas palette. Winter landscapes, materials and individual homes vary across Scandinavia. These North & Noel color combinations are contemporary design suggestions—not a rule—with practical hex values you can use for a room, table, gift wrap or mood board.
Begin with a winter base
Choose one light neutral to give the eye room to rest: warm ivory, pale stone, snow white or soft gray. Then choose one darker anchor and one accent. In a small room, keep the largest surfaces light and bring deeper colors into a throw, candle, paper decoration or ceramic piece.
Natural materials—wood, wool, linen and stoneware—do not need a precise hex value. Their variation keeps a planned palette from feeling too matched.
Pine and candlelight
This grounded combination pairs deep evergreen with a warm, creamy neutral and the brown tones of natural wood. The muted brass accent adds a little light without turning the palette bright or metallic.
Use pine on a small focal point, repeat ivory across larger textiles, and let wood or bark tones connect the pieces. The brass shade works best as a restrained detail on ribbon, an ornament or a candleholder.

Fjord blue and winter frost
For a cooler room, layer blue-gray tones with soft white and a mineral neutral. Deep fjord blue gives the scheme definition; winter mist and snow keep it open, while stone warms the transition between them.

This palette suits a table setting, a reading corner or a simple gift wrap. Try a dark blue ribbon against natural paper, then repeat the blue in one small object rather than every surface.

Berry, evergreen, and wood
A softened berry red brings a familiar festive note without dominating a room. Pair it with evergreen and natural wood, then use ivory as the open space between stronger colors. The result feels seasonal while remaining easy to live with after the holidays.
Keep the red to one or two accents—a napkin, a printed illustration, a ribbon or a small ornament. Repeating it everywhere can make the whole scheme feel more formal than intended.

Use color without making the room feel themed
A practical way to apply any palette is to assign each shade a job: one color for the largest surfaces, one for textiles or repeated objects, and one for small accents. This is a flexible starting point rather than a strict decorating formula.
Repeat a color in two or three places, but vary the material. A pine shade can appear in a printed design, a branch and a cushion; the different textures keep the room from looking like a matching set.
A simple palette plan for the table
Start with the tablecloth or bare wood, add plates and serving pieces in the light neutral, then choose either pine or fjord blue for the strongest accent. Finish with one small berry or brass detail. If the food is colorful, let it do some of the visual work and keep the surrounding palette quieter.
These palettes are North & Noel’s own seasonal suggestions, not a claim that every Nordic home decorates the same way. Choose the combination that feels natural in your home and adapt it to the objects you already own.
